Go Build Georgia team visits Atlanta Technical College

March 28, 2012

Yesterday evening, the Governor’s Office of Workforce Development’s Go Build Georgia team visited Atlanta Technical College as part of their 15 stop regional tour across Georgia.

Education and business representatives from Cherokee, Cobb, Clayton, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Fulton, Gwinnett, Henry and Rockdale counties were present to discuss the details of Governor Nathan Deal’s new skilled labor initiative.

“As we round out the Go Build Georgia regional tour right here in the Metro Atlanta area, we are encouraged to still experience overwhelming enthusiasm about this new initiative,” said Tricia Pridemore, Executive Director of the Governor’s Office of Workforce Development.  “Atlanta Technical College is a great resource for those in the region looking to pursue a career in the skilled trades.”

Go Build Georgia is a private-public partnership aimed to increase Georgia’s competitiveness.  Mapping employer opportunities with employees equipped with the right skills is the key to solving Georgia’s workforce challenges.

“At Atlanta Technical College, we are preparing students for the world of 2018 today.   Construction work is not what it was a generation ago,” said Dr. Alvetta Thomas, President of Atlanta Technical College. “It now involves hands-on application of computers as well as the conventional tools of the trade, and knowledge of the local and global communities.”
